Facilitating Collaboration in Literacy and Flexible Learning Spaces
School story action post--December 2024
As mentioned in the evidence post—please see this link—Kingswood is looking to shift our school story inquiry question. At present we have two grants taking place at our school.
Inquiry Grant #1: Facilitating Collaboration
Kindergarten through grades 6 teachers are using this inquiry question as a guiding pillar:
How can we build teacher capacity on pedagogical practices and instructional routines to enhance students’ proficiency as readers?
5 release days are provided for staff to share in conversation about literacy
Release days 1 and 2 involved discussion about:
- Pillars of Literacy and Kingswood students strengths and stretches
- Reading conferences, their effectiveness and how to make them happen
- Current programs available
- Assessments and planning for instruction
Action items:
- Programs to support student reading at home
- Planning for reading conferences
Inquiry Grant #2: District Inquiry Grant
This grant involves our Kindergarten and grade 1 students are looking at flexible learning space and possible question:
How might the physical set up of a classroom and student choice in seating and workspace impact student learning?
