SEL Around Kingswood: Morning Meeting and Affirmations to Start the Day

Here we see another way to approach daily, organic Social and Emotional Learning and well-being.  This is Division 3, where they start each day with their morning meeting and class mottos/affirmations.  Their class mottos and affirmations were co-constructed with the staff in this class, along with the students.  They also look forward to daily pockets of fun that the children have said they look forward to each day.  These include:

Meme Mondays

Tune Tuesdays:  sharing popular music that are popular with the children

Would You Rather Wednesdays:  engaging in class conversations around engaging "Would you rather do/be this or this?"

Throwback Thursdays--teachers/support staff share "throwback" music or other memories of their childhood with the students

Fun Fridays: buddy reading

Through their class affirmations, mottos and these daily fun activities, this helps students in this class feel, as they told me in a recent class conversation:  "safe", "we belong", "cared for", "we look forward to coming to school".  These daily activities and rituals are such a powerful way for students and staff to also continue to build connections and relationships--crucial for a sense of belonging, community, and well-being.
