Snow Day: Schools Closed Today

Snow Day Procedures Reminder

February 12, 2019

Dear Kingswood Families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding with the “snow day” that was announced across our district today.  For future reference, if there is a potential that schools could be closed, please see the following information from the Richmond School District:

Potential School Closures Due to Weather

The district will try to determine school closures due to inclement weather by 6:30 a.m. We will communicate to parents as soon as possible using a variety of methods including social media and school and district websites.

If schools are open, and you wish to keep your child home due to weather conditions, you may do so. Please let your school know of this decision. Parents/guardians are responsible for their child's safe travel to school. If possible, we encourage parents to walk their children to school in poor weather conditions.

To reach as many people as possible - as quickly as possible - we work closely with our local media to share information. Listen to local radio stations and follow local news outlets online to also get information about the impact of severe weather or emergencies in our schools. No radio or television announcement will be made saying that schools are open.  Only school closures will be announced by the media.  If there is no announcement, that means schools are open.

Here are some ways that you can find out about possible closures due to inclement weather:

•  look at the school district website:  www.sd38.bc.ca

•  look at the school website:  www.kingswood.sd38.bc.ca

•  look at our school Twitter page:  @kingswoodeagles

•  watch the local news for an announcement/udpates

•  listen to announcements on the radio:  i.e. CKNW 980, CKWX 1130

 •  check your email account that you provided to the school—we will try to send out an email update to you about possible school closures.  Our notices home are sent out via email, for the most part, so this is an important means of communication between home and school.

Please use the above methods to get updates about school closures rather than calling the school.  We may not be able to answer the phone as we may be away from the office busy with other snow day preparations, so it is best to use social media, local news, and your email account to get updates in the most efficient manner.

Thank you,

Ms. B. Bahd
